NRM Electoral Commission Tribunal To Begin Hearing 381 Petitions from Primaries

Minister Agnes Nandutu has threatened to contest as an independent candidate after losing the NRM primaries in Buduuda

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission Tribunal has received 381 petitions stemming from the recently concluded party primaries. The tribunal is set to begin hearing these cases on Monday, after summoning all involved parties. In some constituencies, the commission has yet to declare a winner.

By press time, Pius Wakabi, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bugahya County, was at the secretariat, questioning why the commission chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi, had not yet declared his victory. "I am so disappointed. Even now, I am winning with 15,000 votes, yet the commission is still hesitant to address my issue. If the commission is still not satisfied, we can do a recount," stated the MP, adding that existing irregularities were caused by the presiding officer, who is now incarcerated.

The tribunal also summoned Dr. Keefa Kiwanuka, the MP for Kiboga East, who had appeared at the commission to pick up a petition. "The results were in my favor, where I was able to defeat my opponent by a margin of 4,000 votes," Dr. Kiwanuka said.

Additionally, the tribunal summoned Lily Adong, the former Woman MP for Nwoya East, to collect a petition. She expressed surprise, as the person petitioning was the last, citing a polling station where her results were not declared.

The commission also summoned Abdu Swaibu, the declared winner for the NRM flag in Iki-Iki Constituency, Budaka District. Swaibu garnered over 11,000 votes, while his opponent, Mujumba Sam, collected 2,627 votes. The incumbent, Robert Kasoro, has also petitioned the tribunal, alleging ballot stuffing and challenging Swaibu's victory.

Meanwhile, Minister Agnes Nandutu has threatened to contest as an independent candidate after losing the NRM primaries in Buduuda.
