NRM District Woman member of Parliament Heats Up in Katakwi District

Katakwi, Uganda– The race for the district woman member of parliament in Katakwi intensifies in Katakwi District, following protests by women demanding the removal of the current Vice President, who also serves as the district’s Woman Member of Parliament.

Cecilia Anyakoit, a contender for the position, today submitted her nomination forms to the NRM Electoral Commission. The party primaries are scheduled for July this year.

Speaking to journalists, Anyakoit expressed confidence in her victory, claiming she has stronger grassroots support in Katakwi compared to Major Jessica Alupo, the incumbent.

On Monday, June 2, 2025, the current woman member of parliament also submitted her nomination forms but vowed to step aside if defeated in the primaries, pledging to support the winner.

However, Anyakoit dismissed this, insisting that she is certain of victory and urging the incumbent not to contest if she is not prepared to accept defeat.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson, assured the public that the nomination process is proceeding smoothly.

The race remains highly competitive as both candidates mobilise support ahead of the July primaries.
