Justice Minister Mao urges political parties to register under IPOD for collaboration.
The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, also President of the Democratic Party (DP), Norbert Mao, has urged political parties in the country to register under the Inter-Party Organisation for Dialogue (IPOD) framework, which fosters collaboration among political groups.
According to Mao, discussions are ongoing with Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka to draft new laws regulating political parties.
Mao revealed that currently, only five (5) parties are officially registered with IPOD, warning that those who fail to comply will not benefit from the coalition’s objectives.
During a press briefing, he appealed to DP members to return to the party’s roots, emphasising unity despite past divisions that led some to defect to other groups like those in Mbarara.
However, some critics have threatened legal action, with a case already filed before Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama. Mao dismissed these moves as futile, stating that the courts have already ruled on the matter.

When asked about emerging political groups, Mao mocked them, saying they have no real political future but are merely seeking attention without a genuine vision for Uganda’s leadership.
Regarding the 2026 general elections, Mao emphasised that the Electoral Commission must ensure fairness, ensuring that every candidate competes in a transparent and credible process.
