New Kawempe North Legislator Sworn In, Promised Full Perks Amid NRM Legal Threats

PARLIAMENT, UGANDA – In an unprecedented move, Speaker Anita Among has directed Clerk Adolf Mwesigye to immediately provide newly swornin Kawempe North MP Elias Nalukoola Luyimbazi with all parliamentary benefits—including a vehicle, fuel allowances, and entitlements—despite his potentially brief tenure.

The ceremony, held in the Speaker’s chambers today, came after Nalukoola’s byelection victory to replace the late Muhammad Segirinya. The National Unity Platform (NUP) MP defeated 9 contenders, including NRM’s Hajat Faridah Nambi.  

 Maiden Request: Nalukoola asked for "time to detail his electoral ordeal" when Parliament resumes.  
 Opposition Applause: LOP Joel Senyonyi praised Among for expediting the process postgazetting.  

While Nalukoola awaits committee placement by the Opposition Whip, the NRM has vowed to challenge his victory legally—raising questions about the urgency of allocating full benefits.
