Muslim Leaders Urge Support for President Museveni in 2026 Elections

Muslim leaders from various districts across Uganda have called on the Muslim community to support President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the 2026 general elections, citing the peace and stability his government has brought to the country. The call was made during a meeting organized by the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), held along Buganda Road in Kampala.

 A Unified Call for Support
The meeting, which lasted for five hours, was led by prominent Muslim leaders, including Abdallah Lukumbi and Mohammad Kalanzi Kajubi. They emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims and urged the community to rally behind President Museveni, whose leadership has ensured peace and development in Uganda.

“We have enjoyed peace and stability under President Museveni’s leadership. It is our duty as Muslims to support him in the 2026 elections to ensure this peace continues,” said Abdallah Lukumbi.

Gratitude and Requests to the President
During the meeting, Muslims expressed their gratitude to President Museveni for his efforts in fostering national unity and development. They also requested his intervention in resolving internal conflicts within the Muslim community, particularly regarding the leadership of Sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda. Some attendees criticized Mubajje for overstaying in power, which they claimed has led to divisions and poor leadership within the Muslim community.

 Messages from Key Figures
Suzan Kushaba, the former chairperson of Owino Market, conveyed a message from General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations. She urged Muslims to remain united and support the NRM government, which has consistently worked to improve the lives of Ugandans.

Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the head of the Office of the NRM National Chairman, delivered a message from President Museveni to the Muslim community. She emphasized that the meeting was part of the NRM’s efforts to strengthen its connection with the people and address their concerns.

“The President is committed to working with all Ugandans, including the Muslim community, to ensure peace, development, and prosperity for all,” Namyalo said.

 Police Participation
The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Uganda Police Force, including Afande Abdallah Kitimbo, who shared a message of unity and cooperation. He assured the Muslim community of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across the country.

Strengthening NRM’s Connection with the People
Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo highlighted that such meetings are part of the NRM’s broader strategy to engage with different communities and understand their needs. She reiterated the party’s commitment to inclusive governance and development.

“These meetings are not just about politics; they are about listening to the people and addressing their concerns. The NRM is here to serve all Ugandans,” Namyalo added.

 Conclusion
The meeting underscored the strong relationship between the NRM government and the Muslim community. As the 2026 elections approach, Muslim leaders are rallying their community to support President Museveni, citing his track record of peace, stability, and development. The event also highlighted the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving national progress.
