President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni joined thousands at Kaliiro Town Council in Lyantonde District to commemorate Uganda's 36th Heroes Day. The district was selected for hosting key battles during the NRA liberation struggle.
During the emotional ceremony, Hajji Idirisi Ssedunga, chairperson of the veterans' association, highlighted unresolved issues including unpaid benefits and land disputes affecting former fighters. Minister for Luwero Triangle Alice Kaboyo acknowledged funding gaps in her Shs218 billion budget supporting 87,000 beneficiaries across affected districts.
President Museveni ordered immediate investigations into missing veterans' funds and directed Police SSP Ezra Tugume to intensify operations against pension thieves. He announced:

Construction of Lyantonde-Ntuusi-Kashagama and Lyantonde-Lumbugu roads
Strict enforcement against illegal land evictions
The President posthumously honoured 50 heroes and their families with medals for their sacrifice. The event concluded with Museveni praising Lyantonde's historic role in the liberation war while pledging continued development support.
