FDC Unveils Nandala Mafabi as Presidential Flag Bearer, Vows to Fight Poverty

Amuriat rubbished the practice of forming alliances with other political parties, deeming it a sign of weakness.

Kampala, Uganda – The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has officially unveiled Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the former party Secretary General, as its presidential candidate for the forthcoming national elections.1 This marks Mafabi's second bid for the top seat, having previously lost to General Mugisha Muntu. This time, however, he secured victory against Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd of party supporters at the FDC headquarters in Najanankumbi, Mafabi declared that his campaign would be primarily anchored on the key principle of fighting poverty. The Budaadiri East Member of Parliament also highlighted his strong, symbiotic working relationship with fellow contestant Patrick Amuriat Oboi, a bond he stated has spanned 28 years.

Mafabi further emphasized his commitment to improving service delivery in crucial sectors such as health and education, aiming to ensure that students gain access to meaningful employment opportunities.

Speaking after submitting his withdrawal certificate to the party's electoral commission chairperson, Toterebuka Bamwenda, Amuriat echoed sentiments of a positive working relationship with Mafabi over the years, stressing that their competition had been fair and amicable.

Amuriat also took the opportunity to condemn past accusations of both him and Mafabi colluding with President Museveni, unequivocally stating these claims were false. He further rubbished the practice of forming alliances with other political parties, deeming it a sign of weakness.

Relatedly, the party's acting chairperson, Kaps Fungaroo, affirmed the robust process undertaken to select the suitable candidate. He noted that the vetting process, which began at the National Executive Committee level, signifies the party's stability and thoroughness in its candidate selection.
