Mukono, Uganda – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Mukono, Hassan Kasibante, has issued a stern warning to National Resistance Movement (NRM) party aspirants contesting in the upcoming primaries, urging them to adhere to campaign guidelines.
Â
Speaking during a meeting with NRM leaders at the party’s district offices, Kasibante cautioned candidates against unauthorised campaigns in rural areas, schools, and public gatherings before the official campaign period begins on July 11, 2024. Â
"No one should move into villages, schools, or other public spaces for campaigns before the set date. Violators will face consequences," he declared. Â
Moses Lubega, the district NRM administrator, clarified that the party is organising joint campaigns to ensure order and minimise conflicts among contenders. He emphasised that the strategy aims to promote unity and fairness in the race. Â Â
Several high-profile NRM members are vying for different positions, including incumbent MP Ronald Kibuule (Mukono North), Sarah Ayagala (Mukono Municipal Council race), and Andrew Ssenyonga (aspiring for the Mukono Municipality MP seat). Â
Ssenyonga, however, expressed reservations, stating that they do not support any tactics that could undermine a free and fair election. They emphasised the importance of maintaining transparency throughout the process. Â
