Chaos and Controversy Mar FDC Primaries in Sironko District

Mafudu, Sironko – The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party primaries in Mafudu Subcounty, Sironko District, descended into chaos, violence, and allegations of rigging, exposing deep divisions within the opposition party ahead of the 2026 elections.

Five FDC heavyweights competed for nominations for parliamentary tickets: Hon. Sharifu Mawasi, Hon. Rev. Jackson Magombe (flag bearer MP, Budadiri West), Hon. Kabala Richard, Hon. Wanyoto Godfrey, Hon. Ronald Mafabi, and Hon. Phiona Banga (flag bearer Woman MP, Sironko).

However, the contest was marred by violence and allegations of rigging. Magombe declared himself the winner by 1,509 votes, but his rivals rejected the results, accusing him of vote-buying and intimidation. Wanyoto Godfrey’s supporters clashed with Magombe’s camp, leading to fights and arrests. Despite police intervention, Sironko DPC Frank Muzoora warned against violence but failed to restore order.

Despite the tensions, Hon. Phiona Banga was confirmed as the FDC flagbearer for Budadiri West Woman MP.

Some candidates also accused the police of bias, claiming that they sided with Magombe and ignored ballot-stuffing incidents.
