Anita Among Criticizes Kadaga’s Bid for NRM Vice Chairperson Role
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has expressed frustration over attempts to undermine her, particularly concerning Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga’s interest in contesting against her for the position of NRM’s second vice chairperson (female).
Among emphasized that she is not seeking conflict but noted that some Ugandans are pushing Kadaga into the race. She argued that the position rightfully belongs to the Speaker of Parliament, as it involves coordinating party activities and mobilizing national assemblies.
Among received backing from NRM leaders in Lwengo, led by Woman MP Cissy Namujju, who declared their support for her during a mobilization event. Namujju expressed confidence in Among’s leadership, stating that they trust her to win the position if she contests.
The NRM grassroots elections for this position are expected to take place between July and August, following the party’s roadmap.
Anita Among views the position as naturally aligned with the Speaker’s role.
Rebecca Kadaga is seen as a potential challenger, though Among insists she is not instigating a fight.
Local NRM leaders (e.g., Cissy Namujju) are rallying behind Among.
The election is part of NRM’s internal processes ahead of 2026 general elections.
This highlights growing tensions within Uganda’s ruling party as senior female leaders position themselves for influential roles.
