Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom will on June 11th this year commemorate 32 years of the coronation of His Royal Highness Dr. Solomon Gafabusa the 1st the King of Bunyoro Kitara (Omukama).
The current King of Bunyoro Kingdom Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru ascended to the throne on June 11th 1994 at Karuziika Royal Palace in Hoima City.
This came after the restoration of Kingdoms by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

According to the Kingdom Prime Minister Andrew Byakutaga, this year’s event will be celebrated under the theme, Promoting Cultural Heritage and Diversity for Social Economic Development.
He says the Kingdom has drafted a budget of three hundred million Uganda shillings for the ceremony that will take place at Rukurato Hall.
Byakutaga explains that several activities have been organized for the day that include Empango Marathon that will be held on June 6th 2026, Runyoro language competition, boxing competition, Empango golf tournament that will be held at Masindi golf course, in Masindi Municipality, business plus cultural expo organized at Hoima booma grounds and a Royal Thanksgiving Ceremony that will be held on the 10th of June 2026 at St. Peter’s Cathedral Duhaga in Hoima City.
The Kingdom Prime Minister has called on the Banyoro and other partners to ensure that they embrace the function.
The King of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru I, last performed the traditional Empango rituals in 2019.
Since 2020, the King has not performed the rituals due to ill health.
