Mental Illness Awareness Campaign Launched to Curb Rising Cases

The number of people suffering from mental illness in Uganda is increasing daily, leading to overcrowding at Butabika Hospital.

Dr. James Nsereko, a mental health specialist at Butabika Hospital, highlighted the main causes of mental illness and emphasized the need for prevention. To address the issue, Butabika Hospital has partnered with the Galie Maya Foundation to educate the public on how to prevent mental health disorders.
As part of the awareness campaign, a tug-of-war game was organized to bring joy and help relieve anxiety among participants.
In Mpigi, drug abuse and excessive worrying have been identified as major contributors to mental illness. Aisha Nakasibante, the leader of the awareness program, announced that they will be touring the country to spread knowledge about mental health and its prevention.
Additionally, a cleanliness drive was held in Kayabwe Town to promote sanitation and overall well-being in the community.
