Leaders in Lugazi Municipality, Buikwe District, led by the Municipality Member of Parliament, Stephen Sserubula Kinaalwa, have expressed concern over the poor sanitation conditions in the area. They are mobilizing residents to join efforts to clean up their neighborhoods to prevent diseases caused by poor hygiene.
The leaders emphasized that maintaining cleanliness should be everyone's responsibility. They noted that the municipality is overwhelmed with garbage, and the lack of proper waste disposal, especially with food remains, has led to the spread of various diseases.
Joseph Gitta, the Chairperson of the area, commended the ongoing efforts to clean up the garbage that has been a persistent problem in the community. He pointed out that the issue has been exacerbated by residents who neglect their duty to keep the environment clean. He also praised the leaders for their efforts.
Edward Kaggwa Munnakuafiika, the Deputy Municipal Councilor for the area, highlighted that the problem stems from residents who fail to dispose of garbage properly. He noted that while some residents dump waste in designated areas, others leave it scattered around, creating unsanitary conditions. He stressed the need for continuous education on proper waste management.
MP Stephen Sserubula Kinaalwa expressed concern over the frequent outbreaks of diseases in the area, warning that if no action is taken, the community could face severe health crises.
He also called for intensified public education on sanitation, urging residents to stop practices such as dumping garbage in open spaces and exposing children to unhygienic conditions.
