Today marks the third anniversary since the establishment of the Gramen initiative, founded by Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, the First Lady of Uganda. The initiative, which is based in Lubaga Division, was created with the core objective of uplifting and empowering women through economic and social development.
Maama Janet Museveni launched the program with an initial capital of 100 million shillings and officially launched it at the office of the then Speaker of Lubaga Division, Rt. Hon. Musa Mbaziira. The launch took place on May 11, 2023.

The anniversary celebrations, which also highlighted notable achievements recorded so far, were held at a health facility constructed by the Gramen women. The facility was officially opened to the public today.
Rt. Hon. Musa Mbaziira, the former Speaker of Lubaga Division who provided office space for the initiative , attended the event. He expressed profound gratitude to Maama Janet Museveni for her continued support toward the growth and sustainability of the Gramen initiative.
More women to celebrate as President Museveni is sworn in
Mbaziira also revealed that over 30,000 women, all members of Gramen, are expected to celebrate tomorrow as President Museveni takes the oath of office. According to Mbaziira, this celebration will serve as a symbol of appreciation for the achievements registered under the NRM government.
Local leaders applaud the initiative
Other local leaders who have contributed to the advancement of the Gramen initiative also praised its impact. The women, in turn, urged their fellow women to increase their support for the NRM government, acknowledging that it is the government that empowered them to build their own health facility.
Women share testimonies of transformed lives

Women who chose to join the initiative and began working within it—even through small-scale income-generating activities—testified that Maama Janet Kataha Museveni restored their hope. They noted that they no longer need to beg or struggle as they once did.
