The deceased was identified as Kevin Nsamba, 19, who was a senior six student doing sciences.
Panic and fear have gripped the students and parents of Seeta High School, Mbalala, over the death of six senior students who allegedly drowned in the school swimming pool and died instantly.
The deceased was identified as Kevin Nsamba, 19, son of Matthias Nsamba and Namakula Joweria, who was a senior six student doing sciences.
According to police sources, some of the students who were with the deceased told police that Nsamba and his classmates had left the pitch to play football at around 6 pm in the evening on Sunday, and so they headed directly to the swimming pool for swimming.
It is alleged that when Nsamba fell into the swimming pool, he just went directly to its bottom, but the water brought him back one once above as he raised his hands for help, but no one was able to save him, with some of his companions thinking he was enjoying the swimming until he died.
Later, his fellow students and Swimming pool attendants walked away without paying attention to what happened to the deceased, the body left under the water and where it spends the overnight on Sunday, until the morning when they started looking for him without seeing him and the school authorities asked his students and said they had left him in the swimming pool.
They quickly went to the school cameras to see and saw them entering the water, whoever he was already dead, so they informed the Mbalala police, who also reported to Mukono central police station, which also alerted the regional police from Kampala Metropolitan East.
Between midday and 7 pm yesterday ( Monday) the first batch of police officers n led by Mukono Criminal Investigations Officer Roger Walusimbi, Regional CID from the Kampala Metropolitan East, a team of SOCCs, and IT officers arrived at the scene to examine the incident and also to record the statements from some witnesses.
Later at 3 pm, a team from the Fire Brigade also arrived at the school and retrieved Nsamba's body from the Swimming Pool. Meanwhile, all this happened when Nsamba’s parents were at the school, and the body was later taken to Mulago City Mortuary for further examination.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyere confirmed the death of Kevin Nsamba, and they had one person arrested who was in charge of the swimming pool, who is currently detained at Police, and the case of drowning has been opened up.
This comes at a time when the death of another student, Elishama Ssesaazi, happened a few months back, when he was found hanging in the dormitory, and he was seen by his fellows who were going for preps, but to date, no police report has been presented to the public.
