4,500 Students Begin Free Training at Presidential Industrial Hubs

Over 4,500 youths and women in Uganda have enrolled in free vocational training programs.

President Yoweri Museveni’s initiative has enrolled over 4,500 youths and women in free vocational training programs at Presidential Industrial Hubs across Uganda. These programs aim to equip young Ugandans with practical skills to combat unemployment and boost economic productivity.

Trainees will receive six months of hands-on training in various fields, such as tailoring, fashion design, carpentry, construction, baking, cookery, entrepreneurship, and agriculture. The program also includes President Museveni’s 4-acre model farming approach, teaching modern farming, poultry, and fishing techniques.

At the Bukedi Presidential Industrial Hub in Kibuku District, 240 students from neighboring districts have already begun their training. Teddy Ouma, the hub’s manager, noted that many past graduates have transformed their lives using the acquired skills.

Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, head of the Presidential Industrial Hubs program, confirmed that the government fully covers tuition and training expenses. Graduates will receive S.4 qualification certificates, improving their employability.

Since its launch three years ago, the program has trained 15,480 youths across 19 hubs nationwide. Plans are underway to establish a TVET University to allow graduates to further their technical education.

Local leaders, including James Okurut and Joseph Karyebi, lauded the program for reducing unemployment and poverty. Enrollment was booming at the Mengo Presidential Industrial Hub in Kayunga, with many youths eager to learn.

Samuel Musiho, Kibuku RDC, emphasized that the program is a game-changer for communities, empowering youth with sustainable livelihoods.
