Pupils And Teachers Share A Single Latrine

Both female and male students at this school had been sharing a single latrine, which was also used by their teachers.

In an effort to promote education, Rotaract Kampala the Core, together with the Rotary Club of Kiwatule, have constructed a modern latrine block at the government-aided Kamuleku Primary School.

Both female and male students at this school had been sharing a single latrine, which was also used by their teachers.

The head teacher of the school, Teddy Nakkagwa, expressed her gratitude here and explained that they had been facing a knowledge crisis as students and teachers shared one latrine. This was especially problematic when it came to adolescent girls managing their menstrual hygiene.

She added that they often faced challenges with the sanitary needs of the female students, who would frequently have to rest in the teachers' houses.

Furthermore, she stated that most students at this school lack basic learning materials, including pens, due to their parents' extreme poverty.

The students also need support due to the very poor state of the school's infrastructure, where teachers often conduct lessons under trees during the rainy season.

The parents and students praised Rotaract Kampala the Core for remembering them and improving the terrible and unhygienic conditions they were in.

Led by Sonia Arinda, Rotaract Kampala, the Core explained that they discovered the students were in a poor state regarding sanitation facilities, especially the washrooms, which led to their decision to intervene.
