Minister Mayanja Intervenes in Kazo Mixed Primary School Land Dispute

Tensions are high in Kazo Central Zone 1, Nansana Municipality, as State Minister for Lands, Dr. Sam Mayanja, steps in to address a land dispute involving Kazo Mixed Primary School. The conflict pits residents and school administrators against alleged encroachers, with accusations of illegal land sales and threats to the school’s playground.

Minister Mayanja has issued a stern warning against encroachers occupying part of the playground at Kazo Mixed Primary School. The dispute escalated as residents, led by local chairperson Med Mugerwa, accused Nansana RDC Charles Lwanga of failing to act, prompting the minister’s intervention.

During a meeting with the community, school headteacher Ronald Wasala revealed that the school’s original 10-acre land has been reduced to just 6.4 acres due to encroachment.

What’s more shocking is that even the remaining space meant for students is being sold off, with parts of the playground now hosting a fuel depot.

President Museveni, during his visit to Kazo, had pledged to build a seed school on this land. However, residents accuse officials from the Buganda Land Board and local leaders, including Ssemwanga Joseph, Ssemakula Jamada, and Nsereko Male, of colluding to sell the land under a company linked to businessman Uthman Bisegerwa.

Minister Mayanja has ordered the arrest of RDC Lwanga, DPC, and the accused officials, including Ssemwanga Joseph. He also directed the removal of illegal structures on the playground and instructed school administrators to secure proper land titles.

Meanwhile, fuel company Stabex, which operates on part of the land, has been warned against expanding its depot. Authorities insist they must compensate the school if they continue operations.

For now, the community waits as the minister’s directives take effect.
