Friend Opens Up as UCU Honors Pamela’s Legacy

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is mourning the tragic death of Ms. Pamela Ruth Tumwebaze, the University’s Head of Student Affairs, who was brutally killed at her home in Gwafu West, Goma Division, Mukono District.

Her sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the university community, leaving students, staff, and administrators grappling with grief and unanswered questions. A candlelight service held at Nkoyoyo Hall drew hundreds who gathered in silence and prayer to honor a woman many described as the heart of student life at UCU.

Doreen Serujjonji, a close friend of the deceased, revealed that Pamela was going through a lot and was trying to put things together.  This was on Thursday while giving a speech during community worship at Nkoyooyo hall at Uganda Christian University Mukono.

Pamela Tumwebaze, the UCU’s Director of Students Affairs, was strangled on Tuesday night by an unknown assailant at home in Gwafu village, west cell seeta Goma Division, Mukono Municipality.

‘She was a survivor when things were bad for her, and also she would keep herself low when she had money,’ Ms. Serojjonji said.

Ms. Serujjonji said Pamela started evangelism in the hostels, and she loved her job. She loved compliments and was very kind.  She loved her family, and she was part of the group that prays for Uganda and would also pray for the mothers of boys.

‘The first thing to talk of was her children, she distanced herself from rumours, she never fought for power, and she loved God,’ Ms. Serujjonji said.

The UCU Deputy Vice-Chancellor, David Mugawe, described the deceased as a person who would manage the office at all levels.

‘She lived and demonstrated a Christian life and did this with children, ’he said.

Pamela was a lover of parents, she could even call at night, she worked with children who were struggling, and presented cases, she never gave up on any case, and she promoted issues of young people.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, said Pamela’s life was cut short by an unknown person, and yet her life was important.

‘We do not know the motive of the killer, I pity those who kill others, it is a curse because of the blood of people,’’ he said.

He emphasised that why bring a curse on your life and your children and yet you will also die.

Pamela was a hard worker as she gave her life to the UCU University, she was like a vice chancellor of this university, solving every problem,’’ Prof. Mushengyezi said.

Police are still investigating, as there is still a deployment and a maid at the deceased’s home.

According to the maid, the deceased returned home at around 10: 00 pm with her two sons.

She opened for them as usual, and they entered. They had supper, and everybody went to sleep.

The children went to their room, she went to hers, and her boss retired to her bedroom. Pamela was strangled at around 2:00 am, and she was pronounced dead just after she arrived at Mukono church of Uganda Hospital.

Sources say that Pamela has been living with only children and a maid, plus another helper who used not to sleep in the home. She has been living in her sister’s house, who left for abroad years ago. The sister lives and works in Ireland. Pamela will be buried on Sunday in the Mbarara district.
