Bujagali Energy Limited renovated Naminya Primary School in Buikwe District after storm damage.
In a significant corporate social responsibility initiative, Bujagali Energy Limited has completed the renovation of Naminya Roman Catholic Primary School in Njeru Municipality, Buikwe District. The energy company's intervention comes after the school infrastructure had deteriorated for months following storm damage.
The hydropower company, which operates in the area, has fully rehabilitated the primary school building that had been in poor condition for two months after being damaged by severe weather. Babura Nabugenyi, a Bujagali Energy representative, explained that this forms part of their community compensation program:
"This is one way we give back to the communities that hosted our power project. We're committed to both compensating residents and supporting local development initiatives."
Njeru Municipal Education Officer Walube Abenakyo commended the intervention while urging school administrators and parents to maintain the renovated structures properly:
"I appeal to Naminya R/C school management and parents to take good care of these facilities. Government alone cannot shoulder all maintenance responsibilities."
Walube also criticised some local leaders for neglecting school needs while focusing on politics, emphasising that educational infrastructure requires collective responsibility.
Njeru Deputy RDC John Luyima praised Bujagali Energy's partnership with the government in education development:
"We appreciate Bujagali Energy for complementing government efforts in school rehabilitation and community support programs."
Luyima further requested that the company consider constructing teachers' housing and installing a school fence to enhance security for both students and school property.
The renovation project demonstrates how energy companies can foster positive community relations through strategic social investments. By addressing critical educational infrastructure needs, Bujagali Energy aims to create lasting value for the Naminya community that hosts its operations.
