Young Chicken Sellers in Wandegeya Appeal to President Museveni for Help

A group of young vendors who sell live chicken in Wandegeya Market has called upon President Yoweri Museveni to intervene and protect their business stalls from wealthy developers they accuse of seizing their workspace.

The plea was made during a community security meeting held in the market, which also served as a platform for dialogue between the youth and established traders. The young vendors stated that their primary goal is to protect their source of livelihood.

Harriet Namubiru, the NRM Chairperson for Wandegeya Division and a market trader, explained the situation. She explained that developers have constructed permanent lock-up shops in the spaces previously used by the youths to sell their chickens.

Namubiru clarified that these spots originally belonged to the young people. However, she noted that during past conflicts within the market, influential individuals took advantage of the situation and seized the spaces, ultimately leaving the young vendors with nowhere to operate.

The Wandegeya market is a government-built facility that has undergone significant modern development. In a show of gratitude, the traders have pledged their support for President Museveni in the 2026 elections, thanking him for providing the market. Despite this support, they are now urging him to help them confront the challenge these powerful developers pose.
