"Impressed with Progress": PM Nabbanja Lauds Ham Kigundu's Nakivubo Redevelopment During Flood Assessment Tour
During an assessment tour of areas affected by flooding in Kampala, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja expressed her admiration for the progress of the Nakivubo redevelopment project, led by businessman Ham Kigundu.
Â
The Prime Minister, accompanied by officials from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), including the Lord Mayor, Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, Kampala Central Division MP, and technical staff from the Ministry of Works, inspected several water-logged buildings in areas like Sekaziga, Total, Qualicel, and Pentagon.
Â
Later, joined by Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda and her deputy, the team descended into the underground channel being constructed beneath the stadium, which is intended to alleviate flooding.
Â
There, Prime Minister Nabbanja found the construction work to be advanced, with some sections already completed and fitted with water and electricity.
Â
She praised the ongoing work but urged Mr Kigundu to widen the drainage channels leading into the stadium's main channel and to clear any blocked ducts.
Â
Â
However, the Ed KCCA Hajjat Shifrah Buzeki, requested that Ham Kigundu coordinate closely with experts from KCCA and the Ministry of Works to ensure the construction meets the required standards.Â
Â
In a related concern, Kampala Minister Hajjat Minsa Kabanda warned some developers who are constructing poorly, revealing that during their inspection, they discovered buildings where water was seeping through the foundations.
Â
For his part, Ham Kigundu commiserated with the flood victims but assured everyone that the work being done is of high quality. Meanwhile, engineers from the Ministry of Works have raised their own observations regarding the construction methodology of the underground channel.
