Residents from two villages, including Ngogo and Kaseeta in Kabwoya Sub-county, Kikuube District, have confronted officials from the National Forestry Authority (NFA) responsible for the Kasindi Sector in the Albertine Region. The residents are accusing the NFA of cutting down Bugoma Forest, which they rely on for their livelihoods, and failing to compensate them for the resources they have lost due to the destruction of the forest.
Today, the residents held a protest early in the morning in Ngogo Village, Kaseeta Sub-county, Kikuube District, and confronted the NFA officials, demanding answers.
The residents expressed their frustration, accusing the NFA officials of encroaching on their land and destroying the forest they depend on. They also demanded compensation for the resources they have lost due to the destruction of the forest.
The residents further accused the NFA of failing to fulfill its promise to provide beehives as an alternative livelihood for the youth and to compensate those who depend on the forest for their survival.
The NFA officials in charge of the Kasindi Sector, who were present during the protest, began engaging with the residents to address their concerns.
