President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a stern warning to individuals who have misused or defaulted on funds allocated under the Parish Development Model (PDM). During a media interaction with journalists from the Ankole sub-region at his Rwakitura residence, the President proposed a 10-month jail term for those found guilty of stealing or failing to repay PDM funds. This period, he suggested, would allow the government to recover the misappropriated funds.
The President revealed that the matter will be referred to the Cabinet for further scrutiny and the formulation of appropriate measures to address the issue. He emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in the management of PDM resources, which are intended to uplift communities at the parish level.
In a bid to ensure the success of the PDM initiative, President Museveni directed government officials to step back from its management and allow local parish leaders and communities to take charge. He stressed that the program should be community-driven, with minimal interference from higher-level officials.
Additionally, the President reiterated his commitment to curbing corruption by denying bail and bond to individuals accused of stealing government funds. He announced that an executive order to this effect is currently under formulation and will be implemented soon.
