In a significant boost to Uganda’s coffee industry and regional economic development, its been officially announced that a new factory is currently operational at Africa Coffee Park in Rwashamire, Ntungamo District. The factory is part of a broader initiative to elevate Uganda’s position as a leading coffee producer in East Africa and beyond.
The factory, is set to expand further with ongoing construction projects. Despite the current scale, the facility’s infrastructure and design suggest plans for future growth, with continued development aimed at increasing processing capacity and efficiency.
This venture was initiated by Inspire Africa Group, dedicated to transforming Uganda’s coffee industry. The group emphasizes Uganda’s rich coffee heritage and aims to position the country as a top-tier coffee exporter in the region, leveraging local resources and expertise.
In addition to the factory, plans are underway to develop a new sports complex on a designated site. The complex, which will host facilities such as a basketball court, a swimming pool, and a sports academy, is expected to accommodate over 4,000 visitors and participants. This initiative aims to promote sports and youth engagement within the district.
The project includes the construction of a new hall capable of hosting over 1000 people, intended to serve as a community support and training center for local farmers and coffee enthusiasts. There are also plans to establish the Coffee Academy, a training center to empower farmers and improve coffee cultivation practices.
The Uganda government has been actively involved in supporting Africa Coffee Park’s development. The project received funding of approximately 200 Billions from parliament, demonstrating a firm commitment to boosting the country’s coffee sector and economic growth.
Dr. Nelson Tugume, a key figure behind the project, highlighted that Uganda’s coffee industry is a vital contributor to the nation’s economy, with current revenues estimated at USD 460 billion. Africa share of the regional coffee market is valued at around USD 2.4 billion, reflecting its significant role in East Africa’s economy.
Today, leading business leaders gathered at the Africa Business Forum to discuss strategies for further economic development. The forum focused on ways to enhance Uganda’s business environment and attract more investment, which is expected to stimulate growth across various sectors.
Looking ahead, the Factory plans to distribute funds to support women and vulnerable groups, helping them participate actively in the country’s economic transformation. This includes programs aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs and encouraging local entrepreneurship.
