Hariss International Celebrates Global Recycling Day

As the world marks Global Recycling Day 2026, Hariss International is reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship by showcasing recycling initiatives it is undertaking.

Celebrated annually on March 18, Global Recycling Day highlights the critical role recycling plays in protecting the environment and securing a sustainable future. The 2026 theme, “Don’t Think Waste, Think Opportunity,” encourages individuals and organizations to view waste as a valuable resource that can be repurposed into new and useful products, not a problem.

In line with this year’s theme, Hariss International today has handed over 180 coaching boards made from recycled plastic which was collected during the Rugby Africa Cup 2025 that took place Namboole Stadium to the Uganda Rugby Union. The boards are a key technical tool for the coaches and will help in the rugby development journey across the country while demonstrating the practical impact of recycling.

At Hariss International Limited, we envision a future where our actions today pave the way for a thriving and sustainable world for generations to come. Guided by our mantra, "Together for a Better Tomorrow," we are committed to leading by example and inspiring positive change in our communities and beyond.

Environmental Stewardship is one of the company’s core sustainability pillars. Over the past five years, the company has distributed thousands of recycling bins to schools and institutions across Uganda, helping communities adopt responsible waste management practices and encouraging positive recycling behaviour.

One notable example of giving plastic a second life was during the Rugby Africa Cup, where plastic waste accumulated at the event was recovered and recycled into practical items such as phone stands, laptop stands and flowerpots.

“At Hariss International, we believe that sustainability should go beyond conversation and translate into meaningful action. By transforming plastic waste collected during the Rugby Africa Cup into coaching boards for the Uganda Rugby Union, we are demonstrating that waste can indeed become opportunity. Initiatives like these reflect our commitment to responsible manufacturing while supporting sports development and environmental conservation in Uganda.” Samuel Hooper, the Head of Marketing at Hariss International remarked.

Commitment to Responsible Manufacturing; by celebrating Global Recycling Day with this initiative, Hariss International continues to show actions its undertaking as a responsible manufacturer committed to environmental stewardship and circular solutions.

The company believes that sustainable progress requires practical action, innovation, and partnerships that transform everyday challenges.

As the world celebrates Global Recycling Day, Hariss International calls on individuals, institutions, and businesses to join the movement and “Think Opportunity, Not Waste.”
