CNOOC Calls for Unity Among Ugandans as Oil Production Nears

CNOOC Uganda Limited, one of the companies responsible for oil exploration and production in the Albertine Graben, has called for unity among Ugandans as the country prepares to achieve its first oil production by 2027. The company emphasized the importance of collaboration and support from the public to ensure the successful implementation of the oil project.

During a community engagement event in Kikuube District, CNOOC officials highlighted their commitment to contributing to Uganda’s development through various corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. These include the construction of schools, health centers, and other infrastructure projects in the region.

The company has already drilled 13 oil wells and is constructing a pipeline that will transport crude oil to the Tanzanian port of Tanga for export. CNOOC officials assured the public that the project is on track to meet its 2027 production target.

Zhang Lizhong, the Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, praised CNOOC for its efforts in promoting development in Uganda. He highlighted the company’s contributions to infrastructure projects, including hospitals and schools, which are aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ugandans.

CNOOC officials urged Ugandans to remain united and supportive of the oil project, emphasizing that the success of the initiative will benefit the entire nation. They also called on the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could disrupt the project.

Uganda discovered oil in the Albertine Graben in 2006, and since then, two major companies, CNOOC and TotalEnergies, have been leading the exploration and production efforts. The government has been working closely with these companies to ensure that the project is implemented efficiently and transparently.

As Uganda moves closer to achieving its first oil production, the call for unity and collaboration among citizens remains critical to realizing the full potential of the country’s oil resources.
