Residents of Konko village in Njeru municipality, Buikwe district, are concerned about the impact of animal theft on the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.
The program, implemented by the government, aims to promote development at the parish level. However, rampant animal theft in the area has disrupted the program's progress.
Residents expressed their concerns at a meeting organized by Buikwe District Woman MP who also doubles as the state minister in charge of vice president's office Hon Diana Mutasingwa.
They thanked the government for bringing development to their area but regretted that they would fail to recover their losses due to theft.
They appealed to the president to help rehabilitate the local police forces, which were abolished, leading to an increase in crime.
Mujomba Geoffrey, the area chairman, noted that the lack of security would prevent many from benefiting from the PDM program.
Amwanza Simon, the village defense secretary, attributed the rise in crime to the high number of unemployed youths in the area.
