The deceased has been identified as Turyahikayo Evas, a 42-year-old peasant. The suspect is her husband, Karahakye Robert, a 38-year-old butcher.

MUBENDE, UGANDA – A domestic dispute turned deadly on Monday, April 13, 2026, when a peasant woman died following a fistfight with her husband in Mubende District. The suspect has since been arrested and charged with murder.

According to a statement by SSP L. Kigozi, the Public Relations Officer for the Wamala Region, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM in Budibaga East Village, Kalonga Subcounty.

The deceased has been identified as Turyahikayo Evas, a 42-year-old peasant. The suspect is her husband, Karahakye Robert, a 38-year-old butcher.

Neighbours told police that the couple had a history of frequent altercations, often fighting over even the most trivial issues. During the latest confrontation, the man allegedly beat his wife into a state of unconsciousness.

Upon realizing the severity of the woman's condition, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee the scene. Alerted by the disturbance, neighbours rushed to the couple's home to assist the woman but tragically found her body already lifeless.

Angered by the incident, neighbours chased after the suspect and attempted to lynch him. However, local leaders intervened swiftly, rescuing the suspect from the mob. He was subsequently handed over to Kalonga Police Station, where a charge of murder was formally preferred against him.

The homicide team from Mubende was dispatched to the scene, where the Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) conducted a thorough profiling of the scene. Witness statements have been recorded, and the body of the deceased has been taken to Mubende Hospital for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.

In a statement appealing to the public, police urged couples to practice tolerance in their relationships.

"We appeal to our people living together as husband and wife to always be tolerant of each other. If the situation becomes intolerable, give each other time by either one going on vacation or back to relatives," SSP Kigozi advised.
