Son Turned Thief Harshly Punished

Nabuti, Mukono Municipality – Tensions flared in Nabuti Village, Mukono Municipality, after residents harshly beat a 31-year-old man identified as Isima, a notorious mandazi (doughnut) thief, in a violent mob justice incident.

Theft Allegations: Isima was accused of stealing mandazi from a local stall owned by Maama Delewa, a respected vendor.
Mob Attack: Angry residents, including youth leader Isabirye Twahiri, grabbed Isima, beat him with sticks, and dragged him to Maama Delewa’s home for a confrontation.
Stolen Goods Recovered: 11 mandazi were allegedly found in Isima’s possession.   Tumuhairwe Safina (Isima’s mother) pleaded for mercy, admitting her son’s past crimes but begging for his life.

The mob ignored her cries, continuing the assault until Isima collapsed and died.

Some residents claimed Isima identified as an NUP supporter, fueling accusations of politically motivated violence.
Others dismissed this, insisting it was purely a crime and punishment issue.

Mukono Police arrived late, only to document the incident and remove the body.
Maama Delewa, traumatised, called for proper legal action instead of mob justice.
