Tragic Murder of Seeta High School Teacher Ivan Oloya Shocks Community

Mukono Municipality – The brutal murder of Ivan Oloya, a History teacher at Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus, has left the community in mourning. Oloya, 30, was stabbed to death in his rented house in Bajjo Zone, Nyenje Ward, Goma Division, allegedly by his cohabiting partner, Mercy Aber, a teacher at Code High School.  

 How the Tragedy Unfolded  
 Time of Attack: Around 7:30 PM, neighbors heard screams and alerted police.  
 Arrests Made: Five suspects, including a 16yearold, were detained.  
 Body Taken to St. Paul’s Church: Oloya’s body was publicly viewed at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Mukono, where students, colleagues, and family paid their respects. 

 Who Was Ivan Oloya?  
 A Dedicated Teacher: Described as one of Uganda’s best History teachers, he was passionate about mentoring students.  
 Career Journey:  
   Graduated from Gulu University (2019)  
   Taught at St. John Bosco Seminary (Hoima) and St. Peter’s SS Bombo  
   Joined Seeta High School, Mbalala Campus, where he taught for one year  
 Survivors: Left behind a 5yearold daughter, currently in Kitgum.  

 Community Outcry & Condemnation  
 Fr. Peter Ntege Luzze (Seeta High Schools Chaplain) praised Oloya’s hard work and kindness, urging people to value life.  
 Students & Colleagues mourned a brilliant, humorous teacher who made History lessons engaging.  
 Bonifance Sebukalu (Fellow Teacher) described him as disciplined but friendly with students.  
 Emmanuel Ochan (Close Friend) called for justice, saying: "The killers must face the law!"  

 Family’s Anguish & Calls for Justice  
 Titus Odongo (Brother) & Mercy Namwandu (Sisterinlaw) condemned the senseless killing, demanding:  
   Government protection for families against domestic violence.  
   Justice for Oloya, whose life was cut short just as his career flourished.  

 School & Government Response  
 Dr. JC Muyingo (Founder, Seeta Schools & State Minister for Higher Education) expressed deep sorrow, calling Oloya a "shining star".  
 Paul Alibundi (Headteacher, Seeta High Green Campus) urged students to honor Oloya’s legacy through academic excellence.  

 Burial & Final Journey  
Oloya will be laid to rest on Saturday in Kitgum District, where his young daughter now faces life without a father.
