Industrial City Division, Elgon Region – A somber cloud hangs over Maluku Ward as the community mourns the heartbreaking death of a 13-year-old Primary 7 pupil of Nabuyonga Primary School in mbale city who took his own life at home under unclear circumstances.
According to Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, SP Rogers Taitika, the young boy was found in one of the rooms at his family home, having hanged himself shortly after speaking with his mother. Police detectives who arrived at the scene discovered the boy’s lifeless body and noted that some clothes in the room were disorganized.
Authorities have dismissed rumors that the pupil died at school, urging the public not to spread fear among other students. “The incident happened at home, and investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause,” SP Taitika clarified.
The body has since been taken to the city mortuary, where a final report will be issued. Meanwhile, the police have called upon parents to be more attentive to their children’s emotional well-being.
“Such tragedies often occur when children feel neglected or unheard,” SP Taitika lamented. He referenced a similar case last year in the same region, where a child ended his life after being forced into a school against his wishes. “Parents must create time to listen, guide, and understand their children to prevent such painful losses.”
The community is left in deep sorrow as they grapple with yet another young life lost too soon.
