Boda Boda Operators in Mpigi Demand Better Security Amid Rising Theft Cases

Mpigi District, Uganda – Boda boda riders in Mpigi District are raising alarm over increasing motorcycle thefts, accusing authorities of neglecting their safety despite promises of surveillance cameras and security support.

Rampant Theft: Riders report nighttime robberies where thieves steal motorcycles at gunpoint.
Failed Security Measures: Surveillance cameras installed by the government do not function, leaving riders vulnerable.
Lack of Compensation: Many victims never recover their bikes, with no financial relief from the authorities.
Delayed Union Support: The National Boda Boda Union, led by Frank Mawejje, has been slow to address its grievances.

 Voices from the Ground:
 Godfrey Ssaazi (Mpigi Riders’ Leader)
"We’re tired of empty promises. The Union hasn’t helped us—joining it feels useless when thieves still operate freely."

Abdallah Ssennabulya (National Boda Boda Union)
Acknowledged the challenges but urged riders to stay united, promising better coordination with police.
