Six men charged with murdering Godfrey Wayengera, kidnapping, and aggravated robbery.
Six men accused of murdering former Compassion International Uganda official Godfrey Wayengera, 45 years old, have been arraigned before Mukono Grade One Magistrate Elizabeth Peace Lamunu and charged with three counts of murder, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
They include: Asharaf Tumusiime, 40, known as Obadia, a resident of Ntungamo; Fahad Kasolo (30) of Iganga; Mike Ssentaza (40) from Wakiso, known as Mwagamwaga; and Sgt. Muhammad Mwesigye (54) aka Jet Lee from Fort Portal, a deserter from UPDF, Cpl. Mugabe Boban, attached to UPDF Military Police at Kololo, Keeya Derrick, resident of Ntenjeru Mukono, Dauda Kyangwe and others at large.
Before being taken to court, they were first taken to the Mukono Police Station amidst tight security by JAT, and they were taken directly to the office of the OC CID where they meet the R/CID KMPE, who spoke to them first and later taken back in the police van and taken to court in Mukono magistrates court amidst tight security.
There were tears from the family of Wayenege, including his wife Miriam Wayengera and other family members and some of them have even lost their strength and have been seen being supported by their fellows.
Amidst tears from the relatives, a court said the suspects and others who are still at large, on June 9, 2025, at Nsuube A village in Mukono Central Division, using a toy pistol and sticks, kidnapped Wanyengera Godfery and Christine Najjabi and then used their toy pistol to beat and kill Mr Wanyengera.
The court said the suspects kidnapped Wayengera and Najjabi, they stole their belongings, including his mobile phone, a Samsung SMA256E worth Sh1.3m laptop Dell Latitude 5420 worth 3m, while Najjabi suspects went away with her mobile phone worth 80,000 Techno sparks.
Senior Resident State Attorney Emily Ninsiima told the magistrates, Lamunu, that the investigation into the case is ongoing and asked the suspects to be remanded.
The magistrates asked the suspects to remain silent because their court of jurisdiction, his court, was not allowed to try such a capital offence and remanded them to Luzira until 7th August 2025 for mention.
“This court is not permitted to hear your case, but you have the right to apply for bail from the High Court, and you will be returned next month for mention.”
Suspects were arrested from various places after the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, ordered them to do their best to arrest Wayenege's killers.
Godfrey Wayengera was murdered when he was coming back from the village to bury, but reaching near the CCCC site, where he met men putting on security attire, kidnapped and then killed.
Wayengera was the director of Beloved Daycare and Nursery School in Nsube and a leader at St Hannington Church of Uganda.
