The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo, is presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Regional Court of Appeal in Mbarara City.
He was received by the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, along with several judicial officers, both serving and retired. These include Justice Richard Buteera (Deputy Chief Justice Emeritus), Lady Justice Okuo Jane Kajuga (Acting Principal Judge), Justice Yorokamu Bamwine (Principal Judge Emeritus), among others.
The Chief Justice inspected a guard of honour mounted by the Uganda Police Force, officiated the groundbreaking, and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
To mark the occasion, he joined the Deputy Chief Justice, the Principal Judge, and the Mbarara City RCC in planting trees. He said the tree symbolizes the beginning of the first Regional Court of Appeal in Western Uganda following a similar event in Gulu earlier this week.
He was later taken on a guided tour of the construction site, where a six-storey court building will be built by Seyani Brothers & Company and Siyani Parbat Construction.
The event is attended by judges, registrars, magistrates, and stakeholders from justice institutions, political and religious leaders, and members of the public. Proceedings are moderated by HW Zulaika Nanteza, Acting Registrar for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
