Security In Kasese Recovers Gun With 34 Rounds
A joint security operation of the Uganda People's Defence Forces and the Uganda Police Force has recovered a firearm with 34 rounds of ammunition, suspected to have been used in recent criminal activities of killing the chairperson of Local Council Two for Kyogha parish in Bwera, Kasese District.
According to security sources, the joint team launched a coordinated manhunt that left five suspects arrested until a firearm suspected of being from Congo was recovered.
On the night of June 9, security forces apprehended a key suspect who later provided critical information during interrogation.
Acting on the tip-off, the joint team traced and unearthed a buried firearm believed to have been hidden underground for approximately four to five days. The weapon, which bears a Congolese marking, was found near the suspected hideout of members of the Allied Democratic Forces, a known rebel group with historical links to the region. Authorities say intelligence reports indicate that the same gun was meant to move to Bundibugyo on the day it was recovered. Local leaders in the area have applauded security forces for their efforts in the recovery of the firearm.
These called on the local community at the border of Uganda and Congo in Kasese district to be very vigilant and check every person crossing into Uganda.
