MPIGI, Uganda – December 8, 2025 – Police in Mpigi District have arrested a 39-year-old businessman and uncovered a suspected ritual murder and human sacrifice site following a tip-off from a resident.
The suspect, Muwanga Ivan, a Muganda businessman and resident of Lunyerere Village, was arrested on the evening of December 7, 2025, after Ms Birabwa Proscovia reported to Kamengo Police Station that she suspected dead bodies were being kept in his shrine. She also reported that the same suspect had attempted to abduct her 12-year-old daughter, Nasazi Proscovia.
Discovery of Human Remains and Ritual Objects
Acting on the information, police from Kamengo Station, reinforced by a team from Mpigi Central Police Station, moved in and arrested Muwanga, detaining him pending a search of his premises.
Today, December 8, 2025, at approximately 1100 hours, a team led by the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Mpigi CPS conducted a thorough search of the suspect’s property.
Investigators discovered ten separate shrines. During the search, they recovered:
- Six suspected human skulls
- Bark cloth stained with what is suspected to be human blood
In the tenth shrine, police found several unidentified buried bodies. The exact number has not yet been established, pending a formal exhumation process to be conducted under a court order.
Ongoing Investigations and Community Assurance
The scene has been secured, and the ground remains calm. Police are conducting community sensitisation to ensure peace and cooperation as investigations proceed.
The suspect remains in custody at Mpigi Central Police Station as inquiries into the suspected murders, human sacrifice, and attempted abduction continue.
