Police in Kasese District, under the Family Protection Unit, are stranded with a 3-year-old child who has been in their custody since last Wednesday after failing to locate his home.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jane Ngelese, the officer in charge of the Family Protection Unit, confirmed the matter this afternoon.
According to ASP Ngelese, the boy can only speak Luganda and does not know where his home is. In a conversation with her, the child mentioned that his mother was arrested by police officers and that his father was murdered—an indication that his parents may have been victims of domestic violence.
ASP Ngelese urged parents to teach their children their names and other identifying details to help authorities reunite lost children with their families.
She further revealed that since the beginning of last year, the unit has registered over 10 cases of missing children, most of whom are between 3 and 10 years old.
Muhindo Asingya, who found the child—identified as Katumba—said he discovered him wandering in Nyakasanga West near the home of the Local Council I chairperson.
However, since Muhindo is returning to school, he is appealing to the public to help locate Katumba’s family as soon as possible.
