Mukono Security Officials Urge Residents to Prioritize Safety Measures

Security officials in Mukono have called on residents to take their safety and security seriously, especially in areas where they live and work. This follows a series of community engagement meetings aimed at addressing rising concerns about crime in the region.

The Mukono District Police Commander, ASP Alituha Majidu, warned residents about new tactics used by thieves, including targeting mobile money agents and stealing phones. He urged the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with strangers who request mobile money transactions, particularly those who claim to be sending money but are unknown to them.

The warning was issued during a security meeting held in Ham-Mukasa Village, Nassuuti Parish, organized to discuss community safety. The meeting was chaired by the newly elected village chairperson, Ssalongo Kiwanuka Ronald, who assumed office following the passing of the former chairperson, Moses Mulindwa.

During the meeting, the new chairperson was officially sworn in, with the ceremony presided over by Kansala Fibi Faith Babirye, the head of education and health for Mukono Central Division. She represented the division chairperson, Robert Peter Kabanda, who was unable to attend.

Kansala Fibi outlined the procedures for swearing in a new vice-chairperson in the event of the chairperson's passing. She emphasized the importance of collaboration with existing committees and clarified that the vice-chairperson does not hold full authority, as their role is transitional.

Ssalongo Kiwanuka, in his address to the residents, urged them to adhere to the bylaws established for the village, particularly those related to curfews, maintaining cleanliness, and prioritizing security. He also pledged to focus on development initiatives that will benefit the community.

The meeting highlighted the need for collective efforts to enhance safety and foster development in the village. Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and work closely with local leaders to ensure a secure and prosperous community.
