Mukono Church Burnt
Naluwala Village in Ntenjeru Sub-county, Mukono District, was thrown into chaos last night as angry residents protested against a group of unidentified individuals who went on a rampage, destroying property, including crops, homes, and even setting fire to a local church.
Â
The violent incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, left the community in shock. The Goshen Discipleship Church, a place of worship for many in the area, was severely damaged after the attackers burned church items, including drums, chairs, and musical instruments. Â
Pastor Annet Kigozi of Goshen Discipleship Church expressed her devastation, stating that the attackers arrived under the cover of darkness and set the church ablaze. She lamented the loss of valuable church equipment worth millions of shillings but emphasised that the church's spiritual impact on the community remains unshaken. Â
The destruction extended beyond the church. Rahuma Wamala, a local farmer, recounted how her newly constructed house and tomato garden were destroyed. She revealed that she had invested heavily in farming, including funds received from the Parish Development Model (PDM), and now faces financial ruin. Â
Another affected resident, Esperito Musoke, broke down in tears as he described how his family's property was vandalised. Musoke and other residents claimed they legally acquired their land from the Buganda Land Board and demanded justice for the destruction. Â
Isma Semogerere, manager of the Buganda Land Board in Kyagwe, clarified that the contested land historically belonged to the kingdom and was once a bustling market. He noted that Musoke had previously lost a court case over ownership of the land. Â
Local leaders from Ntenjeru Sub-county have promised to investigate the incident and address the grievances of the affected residents. However, tensions remain high as the community calls for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators. Â
