Kasese High Court opens criminal session to hear 50 Cases, Urges witnesses to testify

The Kasese High Court, presided over by Hon. Justice Laurence Tweyanze, has opened a criminal session aimed at disposing of 50 capital offences, with aggravated defilement accounting for the largest share.

 

Speaking to Salt TV after the session’s opening, Deputy Registrar His Worship Ivan Nkwasibwe said the 50 cases comprise 24 charges of aggravated defilement, 14 of aggravated robbery, 9 of murder, 3 of rape, and 1 of aggravated homosexuality. His Worship Ivan Nkwasibwe - Deputy Registrar Kasese High Court According to Kasese District Probation Officer Mr. Fauzo Feshail, the rise in defilement cases in the district is due to increased community sensitization, as many parents had previously been settling defilement cases at the village level.

He added that even the few parents who report cases to the police are often asked to provide money for transport to enable officers to arrest suspects. This, he said, has demoralized many parents from reporting defilement cases.
