Kajansi Ngongolo Village residents live in fear due to a land dispute and police operations.
Â
Tension and fear have gripped the residents of Ngongolo village in Kajansi, Wakiso District. This comes after a heavy police deployment to the area, leading to the arrest of several locals accused of trespassing on land they claim is their own.
The situation escalated when police units descended on the village and began arresting individuals in what was described as a routine operation. The atmosphere quickly turned chaotic, leading to a series of frantic chases as residents tried to evade arrest.
Speaking to residents on the ground, our reporter learned that the community is deeply troubled. They revealed that a lawyer, Zawedde, who had been preparing to represent them, is now allegedly attempting to take over their land—approximately three acres—with a promise to pay them after winning the case.
The land in question is at the centre of a complex ownership dispute. Multiple claimants have come forward, including a woman named Rebecca Nsangi, who asserts ownership of seven acres. Other claimants include the very lawyer, Zawedde, and several local residents, further complicating the issue.
As the standoff continues, the people of Ngongolo village remain in a state of high anxiety. Their greatest fear is what might happen next, with the constant threat of more arrests from the police patrols that sweep through the area daily.
