Residents of Kikona-Kyabataagi Village in West Division, Mubende Municipality, were left in shock after the decomposed body of a man was discovered in his home. The man, identified as Onyango David, 47, is believed to have died four days prior, with the body only being found this morning due to the foul smell emanating from his house.
According to family members, Onyango had been living alone since the recent passing of his wife. They expressed regret over not checking on him earlier, noting that he had been battling illness and had no one to care for him.
Fred Katende, the local council chairperson, described the grim scene and the efforts made to remove the body from the house. He urged residents to look out for one another, especially those living alone, to prevent such tragic incidents.
Salongo Henry Nsubuga, the headteacher of a nearby school, revealed that Onyango had been a dedicated worker at the school for three years and was survived by two children. He expressed sorrow over the loss and called for greater community support for vulnerable individuals.
Hajjat Nanyanzi Madina, the Deputy LC1 Chairperson of Kikona-Kyabataagi, described Onyango as a hardworking and peaceful man who had no known conflicts with anyone. She emphasized the need for neighbors to be more vigilant and supportive of one another.
Police from Mubende responded to the scene and transported the body to Mubende Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination. The family will proceed with burial arrangements once the necessary procedures are completed.
The incident has highlighted the importance of community care and support, particularly for individuals living alone or facing health challenges.
