Kaliro, May 15, 2025, The territorial police in Kaliro District have arrested two suspects in connection with cattle theft after a dramatic high-speed chase that ended with their vehicle overturning.
The suspects have been identified as , Bwambale Moses, a 21-year-old boda boda rider from Kamwanyi Zone, Gayaza, Wakiso District, and Muhwezi Living, a 22-year-old driver residing in Kazinga, Gayaza Road, Wakiso.
According to ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Busoga North, the duo was intercepted in Nabigere Village, Bugonza Parish, Namugongo Subcounty, while transporting suspected stolen cattle in a Land Cruiser Prado TX (Reg. No. UBD 599 U).
Preliminary investigations reveal that concerned residents spotted the vehicle parked in a bush at around 2:00 am on May 15, 2025, with individuals loading cattle. Suspicious of foul play, they alerted the District Police Commander (DPC), who immediately dispatched a standby squad.
"The police responded swiftly, but the suspects had already started moving. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit," ASP Kasadha Micheal explained.
During the chase, police fired warning shots, and in the process, the suspects lost control of their vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Four heads of cattle were recovered from the scene. One of the suspects, Muhwezi Living, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Bumanya Health Centre IV.
"Statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses and the owners of the stolen cattle. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of this criminal operation," added ASP Kasadha Micheal.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb cattle theft in the region.
