Kaliro, May 15, 2025, The territorial police in Kaliro District have arrested two suspects in connection with cattle theft after a dramatic high-speed chase that ended with their vehicle overturning. Â
The suspects have been identified as , Bwambale Moses, a 21-year-old boda boda rider from Kamwanyi Zone, Gayaza, Wakiso District, and Muhwezi Living, a 22-year-old driver residing in Kazinga, Gayaza Road, Wakiso. Â
According to ASP Kasadha Micheal, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Busoga North, the duo was intercepted in  Nabigere Village, Bugonza Parish, Namugongo Subcounty, while transporting suspected stolen cattle in a Land Cruiser Prado TX (Reg. No. UBD 599 U). Â
Preliminary investigations reveal that concerned residents spotted the vehicle parked in a bush at around 2:00 am on  May 15, 2025, with individuals loading cattle. Suspicious of foul play, they alerted the District Police Commander (DPC), who immediately dispatched a standby squad. Â
"The police responded swiftly, but the suspects had already started moving. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit," ASP Kasadha Micheal explained. Â
During the chase, police fired warning shots, and in the process, the suspects lost control of their vehicle, causing it to overturn. Â
Four heads of cattle were recovered from the scene. One of the suspects, Muhwezi Living, sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at  Bumanya Health Centre IV. Â
"Statements have been recorded from eyewitnesses and the owners of the stolen cattle. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of this criminal operation," added  ASP Kasadha Micheal. Â
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help curb cattle theft in the region.
