17 Charged with terrorism after vandalizing UEDCL equipment

According to the recently amended UEDCL act 2022, one may face up to 2 billion shillings as fines or serve 15 years in jail

Nakawa magistrates court has remanded 17 suspects to Luzira prisons .These have been charged with terrorism after they have been arrested in the security electricity vandalism operations  across the country.

The suspect had appeared before grade one magistrate Andrew Katurubuki  who has read the charges however they  have not been allowed to answer the charges but have been referred  to high court this being a criminal offence.

The matter has been adjourned to 17th of July pending investigation.

The suspects were lead by Semanda Joseph at a resident of Kiruddu Munyonyo.Orthers he has been charged with include a police officer attached to Mukono Police station Emmauel Kato ,Pius Kyarusiima,Fredrick OthienoBadu  Ayub,Deo Kawalya  among.

The suspects committed the offence between 2022 to 2025 in the in the areas of Bombo,Mityana,Masaka and Mukono which has paralysed business.Speaking to salt fm after the charges the

According to Uganda electricity distribution company communications manager Stephen Olongole, the company has lost close to 5 billion shillings. According to the recently amended UEDCL act 2022, one may face up to 2 billion shillings as fines or serve 15 years in jail.
