Former IEBC Wafula Chebukati Dies at 63

Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has passed away.  

According to reports, he died at 11 pm on Thursday, February 20, 2025, after being admitted to a hospital in Nairobi for nearly a week.  

Earlier, there had been rumors and altered images circulating on social media suggesting that Chebukati was hospitalized in Germany.  

These claims were debunked, with fact-checkers confirming that the images were manipulated and did not depict Chebukati.  

Wafula Chebukati served as the IEBC chair for a full six-year term, retiring in January 2023. He was born on December 22, 1961, and was 63 years old at the time of his passing.
