Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has passed away. Â
According to reports, he died at 11 pm on Thursday, February 20, 2025, after being admitted to a hospital in Nairobi for nearly a week. Â
Earlier, there had been rumors and altered images circulating on social media suggesting that Chebukati was hospitalized in Germany. Â
These claims were debunked, with fact-checkers confirming that the images were manipulated and did not depict Chebukati. Â
Wafula Chebukati served as the IEBC chair for a full six-year term, retiring in January 2023. He was born on December 22, 1961, and was 63 years old at the time of his passing.
