Parliamentary Budget Committee Divided as More Additions Arise, Shs680 billion for URA & Ministry of Works

The parliamentary budget committee may fail to present the budget before the floor of parliament this Wednesday following the two new corrigenda presented to the committee, as a result, the committee will require more time to look into them. These include Shs105 billion for the implementation of URA new digital stamps and e-tax system.

According to URA director Doris Akol, the funds will enable them to operationalize the e-tax system and digital stump process. There was a bitter exchange as MPs debated as to whether they should consider this corrigendum or refer it to the floor of parliament.

The committee members including Margret Kyomuhangi woman MP Nakasongola district, Muwanga Kivumbi Butambala county MP, and Joy Atim Ongom Lira woman MP were opposed to the idea that it will affect the credibility of the committee.
This has prompted the committee chairperson Amos Lugoloobi to adjourn the committee meeting, confirming the process is already affected.

The committee has also received another corrigendum from the ministry of works which requires Shs575 billion to clear the remaining aircraft. Lugolobi says this has grossly derailed the committee, which is going to require more time and scrutinize the process.
