Taibah Schools Badminton Tournament Returns in 2025 with Over 30 Schools Participating

The Taibah Schools Badminton Tournament is set to make a grand return in 2025, with over 30 schools expected to compete in the prestigious event. The tournament, which was officially launched today at Taibah School’s Bwebajja Campus, will take place from March 14 to 16, 2025, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.

During the launch event, Taibah International Schools announced a sponsorship package of 10 million Uganda shillings to support the tournament. Osar Semweya Mosoke, the Principal of Taibah International Schools, emphasized the importance of sports in students’ development and highlighted Taibah’s long-standing commitment to promoting badminton.

The tournament, which was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, last took place in 2019. Simon Mugabi, the CEO of the Uganda Badminton Association, expressed excitement about its return, noting that the event is now back on the national badminton calendar.

With a significant increase in the number of schools registering for the tournament, organizers anticipate a highly competitive and vibrant event. The tournament has a rich history of nurturing some of Uganda’s top badminton players, including Edwin Ekiring, Kasirye Brian, Shamim Bangi, Aisha Nakiyemba, Husina Kobugabe, Shamika Fadilah, and Tracy Naluwooza, among others.

The return of the Taibah Schools Badminton Tournament is a welcome development for the sports community in Uganda. It not only provides a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills but also promotes the growth of badminton as a competitive sport in the country.

As preparations for the 2025 tournament begin, schools, players, and fans alike are eagerly anticipating what promises to be an exciting and memorable event.
