MTN Busoga Masaza Cup 2025 Kicks Off Amidst Grand Ceremony

The 2025 edition of the prestigious MTN Busoga Masaza Cup was officially launched today at the Bugembe Kingdom Headquarters, marking the beginning of yet another thrilling football season for the Busoga region.

The tournament, organized under the patronage of the Busoga Kingdom, was graced by the presence of Busoga’s Third Deputy Prime Minister, Osman Noor Ahmed, alongside officials from MTN Uganda, the main sponsors.
All 11 Busoga Ssaza (county) teams will compete in this year’s championship. According to Isa Magoola, the head of the organizing committee, the teams have been divided into four groups to ensure a competitive and fair tournament.
Osman Noor Ahmed emphasized that the Busoga Masaza Cup was revived by His Royal Highness, Kyabazinga William Gabula Nadiope IV, who officially launched the 2025 edition on July 12, 2025, in Irundu, Buyende District. The opening match will feature Budiope vs. Bukono, a repeat of last year’s final where Bukono triumphed 1-0.

The winners of this year’s tournament will walk away with cash prizes, the coveted championship trophy, medals, footballs, and other rewards, as announced by the organizers.
Ian Mugambe, representing MTN Uganda, highlighted that the tournament aligns with the company’s corporate social responsibility goals, particularly in promoting youth engagement and combating early pregnancies among young girls in Busoga. Football, he noted, serves as a powerful tool for social change and talent development.
Bukono County, the defending champions after their 1-0 victory over Budiope in last year’s final, will be looking to retain their crown. The competition is expected to be fierce, with each Ssaza team eager to prove their dominance.
