Defending champions Uganda Cubs routs Sudan 9-0 ahead of Tanzania last group game clash

The national U17 men’s football team, The Uganda Cubs, maintained their perfect start in the Total Energies AFCON men’s U17 CECAFA region qualifier title defence after an emphatic 9-0 drubbing of Sudan in the group B match played at Dire Dawa stadium on Tuesday.

Layrea Kingston boys showed no mercy to a seemingly disjointed Sudanese side, with an electrifying second half that saw six different scorers on the scoresheet.
Unlike in the first game against Burundi, where the Ugandan side did not see any further net-kisses, this time round, Kingston was left to believe his ball-playing teaching abilities had started showing results.
Overall, eight different scorers for 9 goals characterised the manner in which Kingston wants his boys to approach opponents, with the goal not a personality the most important.
Like in his first game, team captain Owen Mukisa led by example, putting his side ahead in 10 minutes before extending the lead to 2 and two goals under his card to extend his tally to 4 in two matches.
Mukisa’s double was supplemented with a Thomas Ogema sole effort to have the first stanza end with Uganda leading 3-0.
Kingstone then made immediate second-half substitutions, withdrawing Lorrian Lwesibawa and Nickolas Kakooza for Abdulshakur Baba and Ashraf Kyakuwa.
The pair ignited speed and quick ball playing against the opponents before now free-flowing left back Eze Kombi reached the danger area to slot home in one of the most eye-catching moves of the evening.
Arnold Kayemba, Brian Olwa and Travor Mubiru would then come on for team captain Mukisa, Thomas Ogema and Shakur Ngobi, respectively, before Kayemba, Olwa, and Baba also found the back of the net.
Striker Ismail Fahad got off the goal drought to register his first goal and 2 assists before central defender Enock Mwesigwa closed the goal feast with a clinical curve in from outside the area.
The win takes Uganda to 6 points and 13 goals, and they have not conceded, and their game against Tanzania on Friday will be nothing but to determine who finishes top of the group
